Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide first described in the 1990s by researchers at Novo Nordisk during a program to develop selective growth hormone secretagogues. Its sequence is Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, incorporating two non-natural residues, alpha-aminoisobutyric acid and D-2-naphthylalanine. The C-terminus is amidated, and the material is supplied as a white lyophilized powder. The molecular formula is C38H49N9O5 and the monoisotopic mass is approximately 711.85 daltons. The short chain and modified residues give it greater resistance to enzymatic degradation than many larger peptide hormones.
At the molecular level, ipamorelin acts as an agonist at the growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1a, the same G protein-coupled receptor that binds ghrelin. Receptor activation couples to Gq/11 signaling, raising intracellular calcium through inositol trisphosphate and diacylglycerol, which in turn promotes exocytosis of growth hormone from pituitary somatotroph cells. Ipamorelin binds this receptor with high affinity and shows weak activity at other secretagogue-related targets in vitro. Its action requires the intact receptor and is not reversed by growth hormone-releasing hormone antagonists.
Compared with earlier growth hormone secretagogues such as GHRP-6 and hexarelin, ipamorelin has been reported to produce less stimulation of adrenocorticotropic hormone, cortisol, and prolactin in animal and early human studies. This selectivity is usually attributed to differences in receptor subtype interactions and to the tissue distribution of the receptor. Effects on appetite appear weaker than those of ghrelin itself, although the supporting evidence base is small. Whether these differences produce a distinct clinical profile remains an open question, since controlled human trials are limited.

Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that acts as an agonist at the ghrelin receptor, also called the growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1a. Its sequence incorporates non-natural residues, which slows enzymatic breakdown relative to short native peptides. In laboratory and early clinical work the compound is described as a selective growth hormone secretagogue because it raises growth hormone with comparatively little effect on other pituitary outputs. The degree to which that selectivity holds across species and dosing regimens remains an open question in the published literature.
Signal transduction begins when the peptide binds GHSR-1a on pituitary somatotrophs. The receptor couples to Gq/11 proteins, activating phospholipase C, which cleaves phosphatidylinositol bisphosphate into inositol trisphosphate and diacylglycerol. Inositol trisphosphate releases calcium from intracellular stores, and the resulting rise in cytosolic calcium drives growth hormone vesicle fusion. Concurrent Gs coupling and cyclic AMP elevation have also been reported, and the relative contribution of each arm to the overall secretory response is not fully settled.
Purity is normally reported as a percentage of total peak area, a figure that does not account for water content, residual solvents, or counterions. Trifluoroacetate and acetate are the most frequent counterions in lyophilized peptides, and they shift the true peptide content away from the mass of the powder. A separate quantitative assay is therefore needed to state content accurately. Certificates of analysis often omit these details, which makes batch-to-batch comparison difficult and limits conclusions drawn when results from different suppliers are compared.
Lyophilized material is generally held at minus twenty degrees Celsius or lower, protected from moisture and light. Repeated excursions to room temperature cause condensation inside the vial and gradual moisture uptake, both of which shorten shelf life. Containers should be allowed to equilibrate before opening so that water does not condense on the solid. Dividing a batch into single-use aliquots reduces freeze-thaw cycling. Solid peptide handled this way is usually considered stable for months to years, while the same material in solution degrades on a much shorter timescale.
Purity assessment for this peptide relies mainly on reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. A C18 column with a water-acetonitrile gradient containing trifluoroacetic acid separates the target from truncated sequences and oxidation products. Detection near 214 nm exploits the amide backbone, while the aromatic side chains allow additional monitoring close to 280 nm. Reported purity values depend on the method, so a certificate of analysis carries weight only when gradient, column and integration parameters are given.
Mass spectrometry confirms identity and reveals structural deviations that chromatography alone can miss. Positive-mode electrospray ionisation generally yields multiply charged ions whose deconvoluted mass is checked against the theoretical value. Amino acid analysis, and enzymatic digestion with subsequent fragment mapping, provide independent confirmation of sequence and of the terminal amide. Analysts take care to separate the target from deletion sequences, which may differ by one residue and therefore by only a small mass increment.
The lyophilised solid is normally held at -20 °C or colder, shielded from light and moisture. Stability in that state is measured in years, although shelf life depends on residual water content and the container seal. Once dissolved, the peptide is more fragile: aqueous solutions are commonly kept at 2-8 °C and used within days to weeks, and repeated freeze-thaw cycling is avoided. Strongly acidic or basic conditions accelerate hydrolysis, and prolonged exposure to them can strip the terminal amide.
== Interactions == Interactions with atenolol include catecholamine-depleting drugs like reserpine, calcium channel blockers, disopyramide, amiodarone, clonidine, prostaglandin synthase inhibitors like indomethacin, and digitalis glycosides. Most of these interactions involve either additive cardiovascular effects or reduction of atenolol's effects. Atenolol is mainly eliminated renally without being metabolized by the liver or by cytochrome P450 enzymes. As a result, it has little or no potential for cytochrome P450-related drug interactions, for instance with inhibitors and inducers of these enzymes. Accordingly, the broad/non-selective cytochrome P450 inhibitor cimetidine had no effect on atenolol levels, whereas cimetidine has been found to significantly increase metoprolol and propranolol levels. Beta blockers like atenolol can reduce or block the cardiovascular effects of sympathomimetics and amphetamines, such as hypertension and tachycardia. Atenolol has been found to be safe in combination with the non-selective monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) phenelzine and actually improved orthostatic hypotension and hypertensive reactions with phenelzine. However, more research is still needed to assess whether addition of a beta blocker like atenolol to MAOI therapy is safe and effective for improving orthostatic hypotension with MAOIs.
== History == Following the discovery in 1952 that the tuberculosis drug iproniazid elevated the mood of people taking it, and the subsequent discovery that the effect was likely due to inhibition of monoamine oxidase (MAO) and elevation of monoamine neurotransmitters in the brain, many people and companies started trying to discover monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) to use as antidepressants. Deprenyl, the racemic form of selegiline, was synthesized and discovered by Zoltan Ecseri at the Chinoin Pharmaceutical Company (part of Sanofi since 1993) in Budapest, Hungary. Chinoin received a patent on the drug in 1962 and the compound was first published in the scientific literature in English in 1965. Chinoin researchers had been studying substituted amphetamines since 1960, and decided to try synthesizing amphetamines that acted as MAOIs. It had been known that methamphetamine was a reversible inhibitor of MAO. Deprenyl, also known as N-propargyl-N-methylamphetamine, is closely related to and inspired by pargyline (N-propargyl-N-methylbenzylamine), another MAOI that had been synthesized earlier. Deprenyl was initially referred to by the chemical name phenylisopropylmethylpropinylamine and the developmental code name E-250. Work on the biology and effects of E-250 in animals and humans was conducted by a group led by József Knoll at Semmelweis University, which was also in Budapest. Deprenyl is a racemic compound (a mixture of two isomers called enantiomers).
22 February – American company Intuitive Machines' Nova-C lander, named Odysseus, becomes the first commercial vehicle to land on the Moon in the IM-1 mission. The lander includes a Lunar Library that contains a version of the English Wikipedia, artworks, selections from the Internet Archive, portions of the Project Gutenberg, and more. It is projected to reside on the Moon in a readable state for billions of years. 23 February Researchers report studies that, for the first time, measured gravity at microscopic levels. Three new moons of the Solar System are discovered, one around Uranus and two around Neptune, bringing their total known satellites to 28 and 16, respectively. 26 February – A small trial suggests prebiotic resistant starch, contained in many foods, can help in weight loss (~2.8 kg in 8 weeks). 28 February A study links ultra-processed foods to 32 negative health impacts, including a higher risk of heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, adverse mental health, and early death. A study reconstructs the genetic event of tail-loss in human ancestors around 25 million years ago.

TMA-2's affinity (Ki) for the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor has been found to be 1,300 nM. Its EC50Tooltip half-maximal effective concentration at the receptor was 190 nM and its EmaxTooltip maximal efficacy was 84%. The drug was also active at the serotonin 5-HT2B receptor and, to a much lesser extent, at the serotonin 5-HT2C receptor. In an earlier study, its affinities (Ki) were 1,650 nM at the serotonin 5-HT2 receptor and 46,400 nM at the serotonin 5-HT1 receptor. TMA-2 is inactive at the monoamine transporters. It was inactive at the mouse trace amine-associated receptor 1 (TAAR1), whereas it bound to the rat TAAR1 with an affinity (Ki) of 3,100 nM and was not assessed at the human TAAR1.
== History == Cinoxacin is one of the original quinolone drugs, which were introduced in the 1970s. Commonly referred to as the first generation quinolones. This first generation also included other quinolone drugs such as pipemidic acid, and oxolinic acid, but this first generation proved to be only marginal improvements over nalidixic acid. Cinoxacin is similar chemically (and in antimicrobial activity) to oxolinic acid and nalidixic acid. Relative to nalidixic acid, cinoxacin was found to have a slightly greater inhibitory and bactericidal activity. Cinoxacin was patented in 1972 and assigned to Eli Lilly. Eli Lilly obtained approval from the FDA to market cinoxacin in the United States as Cinobac on June 13, 1980. Prior to this cinobac was marketed in the U.K. and Switzerland in 1979. Oclassen Pharmaceuticals (Oclassen Dermatologics) commenced sales of Cinobac in the United States and Canada back in September 1992, under an agreement with Eli Lilly which granted Oclassen exclusive United States and Canadian distribution rights. Oclassen promoted Cinobac primarily to urologists for the outpatient treatment of initial and recurrent urinary tract infections and prophylaxis. Oclassen Pharmaceuticals was a privately held pharmaceutical company founded in 1985 until acquired by Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc., in 1997. Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc., (also incorporated in 1985), having acquired Oclassen Pharmaceuticals (Oclassen Dermatologics) also acquired the marketing rights contained within the agreement with Eli Lilly to market Cinobac.
Oxymatrine (matrine oxide, matrine N-oxide, matrine 1-oxide) is one of many quinolizidine alkaloid compounds extracted from the root of Sophora flavescens, a Chinese herb. It is very similar in structure to matrine, which has one less oxygen atom, and oxymatrine is partially metabolized to matrine in the human gut. Oxymatrine has a variety of effects in vitro and in animal models, including protection against apoptosis, tumor and fibrotic tissue development, and inflammation. Furthermore, oxymatrine has been shown to decrease cardiac ischemia (decreased blood perfusion), myocardial injury, arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats), and improve heart failure by increasing cardiac function.

=== Tea preparation === There are two methods of processing honeybush for use in tea. In the traditional method, the leaves of the bush are harvested, cut and bruised (often with mechanical rollers), and then left in the sun to oxidise. The modern, industrialised process oxidises the leaves in rotating, heated tanks at temperatures of 70–90 °C for two to three days. The leaves are then air-dried. Afterwards, the leaves are sifted and graded according to the application:
== Academics == Emerson University offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes — including BS (four-year), M.Phil. and PhD degrees — across the arts and humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, management sciences and computer science. Intermediate-level programmes (FA, FSc, ICom and ICS) inherited from the predecessor college continue to be offered.
=== Depression === Dezocine shows antidepressant-like effects in animals. Its antidepressant-like effects in animals appear to be dependent on activation of serotonin 5-HT1A receptors and inhibition of κ-opioid receptors (KORs) but not on activation of the μ-opioid receptor. A clinical trial found that dezocine added to sufentanil for postoperative analgesia significantly reduced depressive symptoms in people undergoing colorectal cancer surgery relative to sufentanil alone. There is a case report of a single incidental dose of dezocine resulting in rapid and sustained improvement in depression, anhedonia, and motivational deficits in a woman with treatment-resistant depression. On the basis of the preceding findings, there is interest in dezocine as a potential antidepressant in the treatment of depression, for instance in people with opioid use disorder.
Regular production batches of 238PuO2 particles precipitated as a hydroxide were used to show that large production batches could be effectively 16O2-exchanged on a routine basis. High-fired 238PuO2 microspheres were successfully 16O2-exchanged showing that an exchange will take place regardless of the previous heat treatment history of the 238PuO2. This lowering of the neutron emission rate of PuO2 containing normal oxygen by a factor of five was discovered during the cardiac pacemaker research at Mound Laboratory in 1966, due in part to the Mound Laboratory's experience with production of stable isotopes beginning in 1960. For production of the large heat sources the shielding required would have been prohibitive without this process. Unlike the other three isotopes discussed in this section, 238Pu must be specifically synthesized and is not abundant as a nuclear waste product. At present only Russia has maintained high-volume production, while in the US, no more than 50 g (1.8 oz) were produced in total between 2013 and 2018. The US agencies involved desire to begin the production of the material at a rate of 300 to 400 grams (11 to 14 oz) per year. If this plan is funded, the goal would be to set up automation and scale-up processes in order to produce an average of 1.5 kg (3.3 lb) per year by 2025.

It is a synthetic pentapeptide belonging to the growth hormone secretagogue family. Its principal characterized target is the ghrelin receptor, also called GHS-R1a. The molecule contains non-natural amino acids and an amidated C-terminus.
Both act at the same G protein-coupled receptor, but ipamorelin is a short synthetic peptide with modified residues rather than the natural 28-amino-acid hormone. Reports describe weaker effects on appetite and on cortisol or prolactin release than those seen with ghrelin. Its resistance to enzymatic breakdown also differs from that of the natural ligand.
Receptor binding and downstream calcium signaling are well characterized in cell-based systems. Effects measured in whole organisms are less consistent across studies and species. The extent to which selective receptor behavior drives the observed hormonal profile is still debated.
