secretagogue comes up often in conversation and rarely with the context attached. Here we lay out the basics in order, then work through the practical considerations.

One distinguishing feature reported in animal studies is selectivity. Ipamorelin stimulated growth hormone release with limited elevation of adrenocorticotropic hormone or cortisol compared with earlier secretagogues such as GHRP-6. This pattern has been described as more selective for the growth hormone axis. The finding comes mainly from preclinical work, and the degree to which it holds across species and doses is not fully settled. Reports also describe effects on gastric motility in animal models, suggesting activity outside the pituitary, though the clinical relevance of this observation is uncertain.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that acts on the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, also known as the ghrelin receptor. Its sequence contains five amino acid residues, including a non-natural residue that increases stability against enzymatic breakdown. The compound was developed in the 1990s as part of research into small peptides that stimulate pituitary hormone release. Unlike larger protein hormones, it can be produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis and characterized by standard analytical methods.
At the receptor level, ipamorelin binds GHS-R1a and triggers signaling through Gq-coupled pathways. Activation leads to calcium release and downstream effects in pituitary somatotroph cells. These events promote the release of growth hormone into circulation. The response depends on the presence of the receptor and on the physiological state of the animal or tissue studied. Because the receptor is also found in other tissues, effects beyond the pituitary have been examined in laboratory models, though the extent of those effects remains an area of ongoing study.
The lyophilised solid is normally held at -20 °C or colder, shielded from light and moisture. Stability in that state is measured in years, although shelf life depends on residual water content and the container seal. Once dissolved, the peptide is more fragile: aqueous solutions are commonly kept at 2-8 °C and used within days to weeks, and repeated freeze-thaw cycling is avoided. Strongly acidic or basic conditions accelerate hydrolysis, and prolonged exposure to them can strip the terminal amide.
Purity assessment for this peptide relies mainly on reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography. A C18 column with a water-acetonitrile gradient containing trifluoroacetic acid separates the target from truncated sequences and oxidation products. Detection near 214 nm exploits the amide backbone, while the aromatic side chains allow additional monitoring close to 280 nm. Reported purity values depend on the method, so a certificate of analysis carries weight only when gradient, column and integration parameters are given.
Mass spectrometry confirms identity and reveals structural deviations that chromatography alone can miss. Positive-mode electrospray ionisation generally yields multiply charged ions whose deconvoluted mass is checked against the theoretical value. Amino acid analysis, and enzymatic digestion with subsequent fragment mapping, provide independent confirmation of sequence and of the terminal amide. Analysts take care to separate the target from deletion sequences, which may differ by one residue and therefore by only a small mass increment.

The compound was developed at Novo Nordisk during the 1990s as part of a programme seeking secretagogues with improved selectivity. It was described in the peer-reviewed literature in 1998 alongside related pentapeptides from the same series. Investigators advanced it because it raised growth hormone output in animal models while leaving other pituitary hormones comparatively unaffected. The development code NNC 26-0161 appears in earlier reports, and ipamorelin later became the common designation in published work.
Selectivity is the property most often attached to this peptide. Published animal and early human studies record increases in growth hormone release after administration, with adrenocorticotropic hormone and cortisol responses remaining small by comparison. Effects on appetite-related pathways also appear weaker than those reported for several earlier secretagogues. Reviews that compare members of the growth hormone secretagogue family cite these findings frequently, though the receptor-level explanation for the selectivity continues to be debated rather than settled.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide classified as a growth hormone secretagogue. Its sequence, Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, combines three non-proteinogenic residues with a C-terminal amide. The N-terminal aminoisobutyric acid unit and the two aromatic D-amino acids distinguish it from peptides assembled only from standard L-amino acids. Its formula is C38H49N9O5, corresponding to an average mass near 711.9 Da. At neutral pH the molecule carries a net positive charge, a property that shapes its behaviour in chromatographic and electrophoretic systems.
Compared with other secretagogues such as GHRP-2, GHRP-6, and hexarelin, ipamorelin is described as more selective. Published animal work reports little or no increase in adrenocorticotropic hormone, cortisol, or prolactin at doses that release growth hormone. This selectivity is the property most often cited in the research literature. Whether the same profile holds across species and dosing schedules remains an open question, since human data are limited and come largely from small studies.
Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide that belongs to the growth hormone secretagogue family. Its sequence is Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, and its molecular mass is approximately 711.9 daltons. The compound was described in the late 1990s by researchers seeking molecules that release growth hormone with fewer side effects than earlier secretagogues. It is a laboratory and research compound, not an approved medicine in most jurisdictions.
Lyophilized material is generally stored cold and dry, with desiccant, and protected from light. In solution the peptide is more vulnerable: the histidine side chain can oxidize, and repeated freeze-thaw cycles promote aggregation and loss of material to container surfaces. A mildly acidic aqueous buffer is often used for short-term handling because it limits several degradation routes. Accurate prediction of long-term stability under a given set of conditions is difficult, and published stability data remain sparse.
Published discussion of this compound is uneven. Some references describe it as a tool for probing growth hormone regulation, while others focus on analytical characterization or on comparisons with related secretagogues. Statements about selectivity, half-life and potency often trace back to a small number of original reports that later authors cite secondhand. Readers evaluating a claim should therefore check whether a figure reflects a direct measurement or a repeated citation, and whether the underlying study was conducted in animals, in isolated cells or in human volunteers.
Identity and purity assessment for a research peptide of this kind typically combines reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry. The chromatographic run separates related impurities and yields a purity percentage, while electrospray ionization or matrix-assisted laser desorption mass spectrometry confirms the expected molecular mass. Amino acid analysis or tandem mass spectrometry sequencing can add confidence when material is intended for quantitative work. Laboratories differ in how they calculate and report purity, so figures from different sources are not always directly comparable.

Allergic diseases are strongly familial; identical twins are likely to have the same allergic diseases about 70% of the time; the same allergy occurs about 40% of the time in non-identical twins. Allergic parents are more likely to have allergic children and those children's allergies are likely to be more severe than those in children of non-allergic parents. Some allergies, however, are not consistent along genealogies; parents who are allergic to peanuts may have children who are allergic to ragweed. The likelihood of developing allergies is inherited and related to an irregularity in the immune system, but the specific allergen is not. The risk of allergic sensitization and the development of allergies varies with age, with young children most at risk. Several studies have shown that IgE levels are highest in childhood and fall rapidly between the ages of 10 and 30 years. The peak prevalence of hay fever is highest in children and young adults, and the incidence of asthma is highest in children under 10. Ethnicity may play a role in some allergies; however, racial factors have been difficult to separate from environmental influences and changes due to migration. It has been suggested that different genetic loci are responsible for asthma, to be specific, in people of European, Hispanic, Asian, and African origins.
In molecular biology, ATP10 protein (mitochondrial ATPase complex subunit ATP10) is an ATP synthase assembly factor. It is essential for the assembly of the mitochondrial F1-F0 complex. A yeast nuclear gene (ATP10) encodes a product that is essential for the assembly of a functional mitochondrial ATPase complex. Mutations in ATP10 induce a loss of rutamycin sensitivity in the mitochondrial ATPase, but do not affect the respiratory enzymes. ATP10 has a molecular weight of 30,293 Da and its primary structure is not related to any known subunit of the yeast or mammalian mitochondrial ATPase complexes. ATP10 is associated with the mitochondrial membrane. It is suggested that the ATP10 product is not a subunit of the ATPase complex but rather a protein required for the assembly of the F0 sector of the complex.
Counter-Strike: Source was met with positive reviews from professional critics. Metacritic, a review aggregator website, awarded Source a rating of 88 out of a possible 100 based on 9 critic's reviews. IGN praised the game for its graphical improvements; Jeff Haynes said the game was "much more detailed, featuring many more polygons per model, bump mapping and other graphical enhancements" compared to the original.
Performance of manufactured batteries has improved over time. For example, from 1991 to 2005 the energy capacity per price of lithium-ion batteries improved more than ten-fold, from 0.3 W·h per dollar to over 3 W·h per dollar. In the period from 2011 to 2017, progress has averaged 7.5% annually. Overall, between 1991 and 2024, prices for all types of lithium-ion cells (in dollars per kWh) fell approximately 99%. From 1991 to 2018, energy density more than tripled. Efforts to increase energy density contributed significantly to cost reduction. Energy density can also be increased by improvements in the chemistry of the cell, for instance, by full or partial replacement of graphite with silicon. Silicon anodes enhanced with graphene nanotubes to eliminate the premature degradation of silicon allow for record-breaking battery energy density of up to 350 Wh/kg and lowering EV prices to be competitive with ICEs. Differently sized cells of the same format (shape) with the same chemistry may have different energy densities. Jelly roll cells usually have a higher energy density than coin or prismatic cells of the same Ah, because of a tighter/compresses packing of the cell layers. Among cylindrical cells, those with a larger size have a larger energy density, albeit the exact value strongly depends on the thickness of the electrode layers. The disadvantage of large cells is decrease of the heat transfer from the cell to its surroundings.

The Southern Rhodesian economy grew considerably during the war despite the concurrent rise of war expenditure to pay for the expansion of the military and the air training scheme. Expenditure on the war grew from £1,793,367 in the financial year 1940–41 to £5,334,701 in 1943–44—total Southern Rhodesian expenditure on the air training scheme was £11,215,522. These sums, while tiny compared to those incurred by larger nations, were enormous when scaled against the white population of less than 70,000 that accounted for most of the colony's economic output. Annual costs for the air training scheme alone far exceeded the pre-war national budget. Southern Rhodesia was then the second largest gold producer in the world, after South Africa. The colony's gold output had expanded greatly during the 1930s, and it remained the territory's main source of income during the war, though many extracting operations were diverted towards strategic minerals, most prominently chrome and asbestos. Southern Rhodesia became one of the two main sources of chrome for the Allies (South Africa was the other) and the world's third largest producer of asbestos after Canada and the Soviet Union. By the end of the war the mines at Shabani and Mashaba were turning out 1.5 million tonnes of asbestos a year, in addition to 600,000 tonnes of chrome. Gold output reached peak levels in 1941–42 and thereafter subsided. Southern Rhodesia also exported tungsten, mica and tin, and provided coal for the copper mines of Northern Rhodesia and the Congo.
A meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) reported that when consumed without any other antioxidant nutrient, the relative risk of heart attack was reduced by 18%. However, two large trials that were incorporated into the meta-analysis either did not show any benefit for heart attack, stroke, coronary mortality or all-cause mortality, or else a higher risk of heart failure in the alpha-tocopherol group. Vitamin E supplementation does not reduce the incidence of ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke. However, supplementation of vitamin E with other antioxidants reduced risk of ischemic stroke by 9% while increased the risk for hemorrhagic stroke by 22%.

== Selection and training == From early 1978 to 1980, support, training, and selection consisted of 3 phases, culminating latterly in 6 months/24 weeks training, with the first phase lasting as long as 11 weeks (the RLI's first phase was 6 weeks). Emphasis in selection depended on extreme physical fitness and aggression (running at an excess of 120 kilometres per week), mental strength in decision making and problem solving under extreme duress. The selection course consisted of a junior leader assessment in all areas concerning leadership. All Counter Operations Insurgency (COIN) battle drills were held in battle camps at Concession and Shamva. The pass rate among recruits amounted to only 30%. On passing out, recruits were deployed to one of 13 and latterly 14 troops (Troop company strength being 120 men; Mantle Mounted and November Troop being new additions in 1981). The Support Unit supported the Police in rural problem areas (latterly dissidents), as well as in urban emergencies. In November 1980, during the Entumbani I uprising, two sections of 60 men each from 5 Support Unit Troops (Mantle Echo, Mantle Charlie, Mantle Juliet, Mantle Hotel, Mantle Lima, 300 men in all), travelled from all over Zimbabwe to reach Bulawayo in 11 hours. Due to the Support Unit Troops being independent with their own vehicles, stores, ammunition, medical supplies, tents etc., they could deploy anywhere at a moment's notice all over Zimbabwe.

Breast augmentation (also breast enlargement) is a plastic surgery procedure by which either a breast implant or a fat-graft implant is emplaced to the thorax to increase the size of the breasts in order to correct congenital defects of the breast and of the chest wall. Consequently, after the breast-enlargement surgery, the symmetrical breast hemisphere is of proportionate size, has a smooth contour, and is anatomically consistent with the woman's body. Three therapeutic purposes require the emplacement of a prosthetic breast: (i) primary reconstruction surgery of the chest and breast tissues damaged by breast cancer, blunt trauma, penetrating trauma, and blast injury; and of developmental defects of the thoracic anatomy, e.g. the tuberous breast deformity; (ii) the surgical revision and reconstruction of chest-and-breast-tissue complications arisen from a previous mammoplasty; and (iii) primary augmentation to surgically enhance the aesthetics of the bust and the breasts. To augment the volume of the breast hemisphere, a prosthetic breast (saline or silicone) establishes the initial spherical augmentation of the breast for contouring by the plastic surgeon. To augment the volume of the breast hemisphere with autologous adipocyte tissue, the surgeon injects the woman's refined body-fat into the skin envelope to correct contour defects of the breast hemisphere. A fat-graft breast augmentation yields a breast-size increase is of modest volume, usually one brassière cup-size, consequent to the body's usual resorbtion of most of the autologous fat-graft.
=== Gene therapy === Gene therapy was first trialled in 2014 on a single patient, and followed by clinical trials in which several patients were successfully treated. In 2023, both exagamglogene autotemcel (Casgevy) and lovotibeglogene autotemcel (Lyfgenia) were approved for the treatment of sickle cell disease. Kendric Cromer in October 2024 became the first commercial case in the US to receive gene therapy and was discharged from Children's National Hospital. The one-off gene-editing therapy, Casgevy, also known as Exa-cel, is to be offered to patients on the National Health Service (NHS) in England as from 2025. Both Casgevy and Lyfgenia work by first harvesting the patient's HSCs, then using CRISPR gene editing to modify their DNA in the laboratory. In parallel, the person with sickle cell disease's bone marrow undergoes a myeloablation procedure to destroy the remaining HSCs. The treated cells are then infused back into the patient, where they colonise the bone marrow and eventually resume production of blood cells. Casgevy works by editing the BCL11A gene, which normally inhibits haemoglobin F (foetal haemoglobin) production in adults. The edit increases HbF production, which is not prone to sickling. Lyfgenia introduces a new gene for T87Q-globin, which coexists with the sickling beta-globin but reduces the incidence of sickling. A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in April 2026 showed a new CRISPR gene therapy labeled renizgamglogene autogedtemcel (abbreviated to reni-cel) that increased total hemoglobin from 9.8 to 13.8g/dL.

== History == 3-MeO-PCP was first synthesized in 1979 to investigate the structure–activity relationships of phencyclidine (PCP) derivatives. The effects of 3-MeO-PCP in humans were not described until 1999 when a chemist using the pseudonym John Q. Beagle wrote that 3-MeO-PCP was qualitatively similar to PCP with comparable potency. Interest in gray-market dissociates accelerated in 2008, when an online research chemical vendor began offering the less potent 4-MeO-PCP. In 2009, a Swiss chemist described the effects of taking the drug on the Bluelight forums. 3-MeO-PCP first became available as a research chemical in 2011. The drug was first reported to the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction by the UK on March 29, 2012.

It acts on the growth hormone secretagogue receptor, GHS-R1a, which is also the receptor for ghrelin. Binding triggers intracellular signaling that promotes growth hormone release from the pituitary. The interaction is the basis for its classification as a secretagogue.
In animal studies it showed greater selectivity for growth hormone release, with less effect on cortisol and adrenocorticotropic hormone than compounds such as GHRP-6. This selectivity is one of the most frequently cited features in preclinical literature. Whether the same profile applies in other contexts is not fully established.
The receptor-level events are reasonably well described, but the full range of downstream effects is not. Studies have reported activity in tissues beyond the pituitary, including the gut. How these observations translate across species and conditions remains an open question.
Results are most often expressed as a percentage of total peak area from a reversed-phase separation. That figure reflects the detection wavelength, gradient and integration choices used by the laboratory. Two valid certificates can therefore quote different values for the same material without either being incorrect.
